Το 1971 οι Supertramp κυκλοφόρησαν το 2ο album τους με καινούρια σύνθεση πλην των δύο αρχηγών και συνιδρυτών Roger Hodgson και Rick Davies. Με το album αυτό εγκαινιάζεται ο καινούριος ήχος των Supertramp. Και αυτό το album, όπως και ο πρώτος δίσκος τους, δεν γνώρισαν εμπορική επιτυχία. Ωστόσο και εδώ υπάρχουν τα - απαραίτητα - μουσικά διαμαντάκια, αφού η μουσική ιδιοφυία των Roger και Rick δεν μπορούσε να κρυφτεί...
Ο Roger και σ' αυτό το album παίζει μπάσο (για τελευταία φορά στο "Rosie had everything planned" , ενώ ο Rick καταπιάνεται και με τα φωνητικά, που δεν τα άγγιξε στο πρώτο album.

Η σύνθεση του συγκροτήματος

Στο αριστουργηματικό "Rosie had everything planned" o Frank Farrel, που συμμετείχε με τον Roger στη σύνθεση του τραγουδιού, αφήνει το μπάσο στα χέρια του Roger και αναλαμβάνει το πιάνο και το ακορντεόν. Η ακουστική κιθάρα και τα φωνητικά ανήκουν στον Roger.

Να κι ένα τραγούδι από το 2ο album του συγκροτήματος που τραγουδάει ο πρόσφατα θανών Rick Davies. To τραγούδι αυτό διάρκειας μόλις 2 λεπτών είναι ένα από τα πολύ αγαπημένα μου και το πιο αγαπημένο του δίσκου, μαζί με την Rosie.

Το τρίτο album των Supertramp ήταν ...
ΟΡΙΑΚΟ!
Ίσως το καλύτερο album που έχω ακούσει στη ζωή μου.
Κάθε τραγούδι και ένα αριστούργημα: Από το προβληματισμένο School και το φτιαγμένο επίτηδες απλοϊκό Dreamer μέχρι το εξαιρετικό Crime of the Century.
Κυκλοφόρησε τον Οκτώβριο του 1974 και εμπορικά έσπασε (επιτέλους) το ρόδι και έκανε καλές πωλήσεις σε πολλές χώρες, καθιερώνοντας και κάνοντάς τους γνωστούς, παντού.
Ποιοτικά το album πήρε εξαιρετικές κριτικές, ενώ συμπεριλήφθηκε στο: Rolling Stone's "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time".

Το κομμάτι που άνοιγε τον δίσκο ήταν το και το πρώτο αριστούργημά του, δείχνοντας σε όσους το άκουγαν το τι θα επακολουθούσε.
