First he wanted to leave, then he didn't, and finally he did. Christos Zafeiris is in an unenviable situation, he didn't play at all in a stitched jersey at the weekend and it is still unknown how the whole situation will end. PAOK fans don't understand the situation and are asking on social media under the hashtag FreeZafeiris for the midfielder to be allowed to leave. Slavia doesn't want to release him, but they have a possible replacement in the squad.
This is becoming a transfer soap opera that will probably write several more episodes. The (non)departure of Christos Zafeiris from Slavia has been discussed since the end of last season. The 22-year-old midfielder wanted to try a new challenge after the championship success and the club was reconciled with it, but in the end he decided to stay and received a new contract until 2028, of course, under significantly improved conditions.
However, during the first half of August, a series of offers from PAOK Thessaloniki began to play out. Two definitely came, there was speculation about a third, but Slavia boss Jaroslav Tvrdík denied it.
According to him, the Greek international is under pressure from his family, which wants to secure himself financially, which is a completely understandable request. However, according to their boss, the Stitches are unable to prepare for the departure in such a short time. The Champions League awaits them.
Zafeiris did not play at all in Jablonec
The former player of the Norwegian Haugesund is logically confused about this, which was confirmed by coach Jindřich Trpišovský after Saturday's match in Jablonec (1:1). An annoyed Zafeiris spent the entire match on the substitutes' bench.
In the first four rounds, he was one of Slavia's best players and managed to score two goals and add one assist. Trpišovský still believes that Zafeiris will stay at the club and help it during the difficult autumn.
The Greek is one of those fighters who will not let anything go on the pitch. It is this character trait that gives the stitched-up hope that if he stays, he will set his mind on Slavia again.
Otherwise, it would make no sense to keep the nine-time Greek representative in Prague. Of course, the fans of PAOK Thessaloniki, for whom Zafeiris is a desired reinforcement, are also closely following the complicated situation.
Kričfaluši will take over the midfield job
“You are delaying it unnecessarily and in the end you will get less money and it will also affect the team in the Champions League,” wrote a PAOK supporter with the nickname ergiakos on the social network X. Under the hashtag FreeZafeiris, a number of Greeks write similar comments, often directly urging Jaroslav Tvrdík to let their compatriot join PAOK. Especially when the club from Thessaloniki is reportedly offering up to 12 million euros (approx. 300 million crowns) and other bonuses.
