Uruguayan striker Joaquin Boghossian has attracted the attention of English Premier League clubs Liverpool and Aston Villa. Rafa Benitez, the coach of Liverpool, and Martin O´Neill, the coach of Aston Villa, are fighting for the signature of the in-form Newell´s Old Boys striker.
According to Uruguayan newspaper El Observador several European clubs have confirmed interest in the 22-year-old, but it is the two mentioned English clubs who have made the most concrete proposals to sign the player.
Boghossian, who stands at 1.95 metres tall, is owned by Cerro of Montevideo, but he currently plays for Newell´s on loan. He will remain at the Argentine club until midway through the year.
If the striker continues to find the back of the net on a regular basis he could feature for Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Liverpool and Aston Villa believe Boghossian has sufficient potential to follow in the footsteps of Atletico Madrid star Diego Forlan, even if they are two players with contrasting characteristics.
